My Design Process

Is this a rigorous process I must follow? Nope! Do I sometimes go out of order? Sometimes, yeah. I enjoy tweaking and adjusting what I do to ensure a project gets completed on time and delivers benefits to the people whom it affects. Some projects don't even need every step, but I want to give you a peak into how my mind works.

No matter what steps I complete, I always ensure that I Lead with Empathy, Design with Accessibility, Think of the End-to-End Experience, and Have Fun while doing it.

01

Listen. Think. Question.

Key features:

I begin by learning what the goal is and asking questions to understand what we're doing, why we're doing it, and how this will benefit the end-users. I also identify the business goals and the context of the work.

02

Discover. Partner.

Using what I've learned, I focus on bringing clarity to the user experience strategy. I reach out to teammates and other teams to help connect the dots and form my design direction. I plan for where UX Research can be helpful to meet our goals and understand more about the users and their needs.

Key features:

03

Design. Feedback. Ideate.

Key features:

I seek feedback from my team to ensure I'm going in the right direction and make adjustments to help meet our goals. I then ideate on the parts of my work that need to be improved and repeat this process as early and as often as needed.

04

Stakeholder Review

Final concept is reviewed with stake holders. This includes design teams, business leads, developers, and anyone else who has a stake in the success of this project.

Key features:

05

Development Partnership

I work with the developers so they have an understanding of what needs to be built. I'm always listening closely for things I can do differently with my files to improve the developers experience.

Testing and Monitoring in the Real World

The designs are ready to go live. Depending on the work sometimes it goes to a pilot group of users to get quick feedback before pushing it to the world. Other times we release it to an A/B test and go with the design that hits our business goals. Regardless how we release it, I'm involved with the production release as well as monitoring the Google Analytic feedback that we get from our site usage to iterate for the next version.
